fairy tale 100;
078. Two match-makers
Tegan’s hands are gentle on his pseudo-sister’s hair, because the rest of the world won’t be. He murmurs that he loves her, never wants to lose her. That’s why she’s got to stay inside tonight, not run wild with that odd boy.
Ilya’s hands are rough on her brother’s hair, because that’s what keeps him grounded in reality. She explains that she loves him, wants him safe. That’s why he shouldn’t run off without telling her, even to see his friend.
Isaac’s hand touches D’Arcy’s as the window’s jerked open, fingertip to fingertip. The air starts to taste sweet again.
083. The girl who is spinning the thread of fate
There are certain Rules, of course. Everything has to have them. Limits, Edges, Boundaries; they all, in the end, mean Rules.
Can’t push things to 100%. Can’t change physics. Can’t stop death. Fate.
But Isaac can’t hear her. She talks quietly at his bedside while machines Beep and Rick and she Knows he’s not Hearing a single thing. She needs him to hear her. Needs him to laugh. Needs him to tell her she’s wrong, that she’s improbable, that she’s got twigs in her hair, star’s fire in her smile.
Needs Him.
Decides to break the Rules. Never looks back.
